So far, the Cowboys are not missing Flozell Adams. That is because Doug Free appears to be the real deal at Left Tackle. Each week, Doug is matched up against the other team's best pass rusher, and each week Free holds his own. Now, there are times where Doug can get a bit rag-dolled with a good bull rush, but it is very tough to try and run around him.

Free is very quick and fast for an offensive linemen. So he does a good job at neutralizing speed rushers off the edge. Now, does that mean that Free will someday turn into an elite left tackle who perennially makes it to the Pro Bowl and some All-Pro designations? I'm not sure about that, but so far so good.

Last night against the New Orleans Saints, Alex Smith is finally starting to deliver on the promise of being a first pick in the draft. Alex was running past linebackers in the flat, showed poise, and precision. Is this the beginning of a new era in San Francisco? Probably not. But we'll see.

Earlier this season, Dez Bryant created a little bit of a stir in Valley Ranch because he refused to engage in some rookie hazing. Roy Williams ordered the rookie to carry his shoulder pads. Dez refused because he was not aware of the rookie hazing ritual (or so he says).

Well, only 2 weeks into the NFL season, it appears that Roy Williams should be carrying Dez's shoulder pads. So far this year Dez has 108 yards receiving and Roy has only 74 yards receiving. This, in spite of the fact that Roy is starting over Dez. Go figure. And the fumble he had late against the Chicago Bears doesn't help either.

So far this season, the Cowboys are 0-2, but that is not on Tony Romo. Overall, Romo is playing well, not great, but well enough. The Cowboys problems seem to stem from poor play calling from Jason Garrett.

Offensive Coordinators are basically playing a game of chess with Defensive Coordinators. And Jason Garrett is no grand master. In fact, Garrett makes every Defensive Coordinator look like a regular Bobby Fischer.

Don't be shocked if the Cowboys begin to "start" Dez Bryant in favor of Roy Williams. If you recall, the Dallas Cowboys are loathe to make changes in the depth chart officially to reporters. Even if one player is getting on the field more than another player, you will still not hear them officially announce the change.

In the first game this year against the Washington Redskins, Romo inexplicably threw the ball to Dez Bryant several times, even when he was not open. He would make a quick throw at the line of scrimmage to Dez for a 2 yard gain.

This is a subtle hint that Romo is saying to the coaching staff, "Hey, Dez is my guy. Do me a favor, and let's bench Roy because I have no idea where in the hell he will be on any given play. I need to know where my targets are going to be on any given play. I'm tired of throwing interceptions.

MILES AUSTIN 40 YARD DASH TIME

Apparently, Miles Austin is no one year wonder. He's no flash in the pan. After 2 weeks into the 2010-2011 season, Miles leads the NFL in receiving yards. So far, Miles has 288 yards. The closest receiver thus far is Chad Ochocinco.

What makes Miles so successful? For starters, perfect technique and routes. Miles catches the ball away from his body right out of the air. He also runs great routes so that Tony Romo can rest assured that he won't have to worry about being picked off.

Also, if you notice, Miles has extremely thick legs. His legs are very similar to that of an NFL Running Back. This gives him great center of gravity enabling him to make sharp cuts without having to worry about toppling over. T.O. (Terrell Owens) is the opposite. TO is top-heavy, meaning that he has a hard time getting in and out of cuts without losing balance. Miles' legs also enable him to break a lot of arm tackles as well.

It is notable that Stanford's Toby Gerhart ran an unofficial 4.53 at 231 pounds. A lot of people have been wondering if he has the chops to make it in the NFL. He answered some of those concerns with his good performance. He also had a 38" vertical leap. Look to see Toby go around rounds 3-6.

Can Toby Gerhart really run a 4.43?

We are about to find out tomorrow at the NFL Scouting Combine in Indianapolis. According to Toby, he once ran a 4.43 in the 40 yard dash. If this is true, his Speed Score would be about 120 since his playing weight is at 231 pounds. That would mean that Toby would have the 8th best Speed Score in the NFL tied with Oakland Raiders' Darren McFadden. Chris Johnson, the NFL's fastest man is in 6th place for best Speed Score amongst NFL Running Backs.

When I watch the game film, I have to say he really does not look like a 4.4 guy. He looks more like a 4.6-4.5 guy. He does do a good job of protecting the ball though. Tomorrow we'll find out if this white running back can make it to the NFL.

According to his Twitter Feed, Darrell Green ran a 4.43 on his 50th Birthday! Must have been hand timed but in any event, anyone over 50 that can run UNDER 5 is doing pretty damn good. Bet Deion can't run under 4.6 and he's a good 10 years younger than Darrell.

TRACY PORTER's 40 Yard Dash Time

Tracy Porter really jumped that route didn't he? I couldn't tell, but to jump a route that aggressively, he must have had safety help over the top. It just shows what a small window a quarterback has to deal with. Peyton Manning had an excellent game overall. I wouldn't even go so far to call that throw a mistake. It's just one of those things where the other guy made a great play.

Which brings me to my next thought. Sean Payton's decision to on side kick to start off the second half. Can you just imagine the throngs of people in Louisiana that would be ready to murder him had the Colts retained possession and went on to win the game? Sean Payton looks like a genius for making that call. But you don't have to be a rocket scientist to understand that in an alternate universe, he would be scorned as a damn fool if the dice turned up snake eyes.

Just as with Peyton Manning's interception that probably wasn't really a bad throw or play, and Payton's gamble, it just goes to show that how smart or stupid a play really is, or how you think it is, the only thing you can do in life is make the best call you can to move on. I also thought it was interesting to hear that kicker Matt Stover points in to the air towards God whether he makes the kick or he misses the kick.

I hear a lot of golfers say that when they miss a putt, in their minds, it was a successful putt if they went through all their protocols. As long as they hit it pure, it is a success regardless if the ball makes it to the bottom of that hole or not.

CHAD JOHNSON CHALLENGES CHRIS JOHNSON TO FOOTRACE FOR HAITI

Chad Ochocinco has challenged Chris Johnson to a footrace for game checks when they meet up at the Pro Bowl. The loser of the footrace will have to send their check to the relief effort in Haiti. Should be an interesting race and I hope they televise it.

Since I know many of you guys are hard core gamers, I thought you'd like to know about some of the cooler video games coming to a Best Buy near you. Here's the best and most expensive video game on the market. It costs several thousands of dollars though, but it looks like it's worth it. This demo brought a lot of attention and there was always a crowd around this display. I could tell some of the neighboring display guys were getting jealous of all the attention this guy got.

At CES 2010 they announced and displayed a demo of the new 3D video game called Scrap Metal. The 3D looks pretty good, although I'm not sure I'd call it off the charts amazing. The 3D element does bring a little something extra to the table, however, it seems to me that you lose a little bit when it comes to color, focus, and overall picture quality. So if you are worried that your new expensive flat screen LCD is going obsolete, don't fret. 2D is still here to stay...for most people.
